Blessing for the Poor in Spirit

 

Christ's Sermon on the Mount was a greeting to the whole human family—Heaven's benediction to the world.

 

"He began to teach them, saying, Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven." – Matthew 5:2, 3

 

Christ's words of greeting brought hope; those who heard them realized that their lives were blessed by God.

His teaching did not cater to human pride or ambitions. Pride creates a barrier to receiving the greatest gift from Heaven and the abundant blessings that Jesus came to offer. Those who understand that they cannot save themselves or do any good through their own efforts are the "poor in spirit." Anyone who recognizes that they have nothing good in themselves are the "poor in spirit."

 

No matter what your current circumstances may be, if you acknowledge your need for a Savior and cry out for help, our compassionate Savior will not fail to notice. He has been waiting for you to reach out to Him. He invites you exchange your inner poverty with the riches of His grace. We are not worthy of God's love, but Christ, our surety, is worthy, and He is inviting you to come to Him today. Indeed, He will save all who respond to His call.
